what is the sound of the voice that i hear in my head
what is the sound of the voice that i hear in my head
it’s not what you hear
what is the sound of the voice that you hear in your head
what is the sound of the voice that you hear in your head
it’s not what i hear
what is the sound of the song that you sing next to me
it’s… different from here.
(fuck)
Hrm well for people who might be friends and family and suddenly concerned that I’m having some issues, don’t be concerned; I’m doing great. It’s fun to explore different aspects of ourselves, of others, of everything. I imagine here a few things going on:
1. Literally, it’s an exploration of the sound of our own voice. Say things over and over again… listen to the sound of your own voice. Say things over and over again… listen to the sound of another’s voice. Say things over and over again… listen.
2. Philosophically, it’s the imperfection of language and communication. We sound different to ourselves in terms of meanings as well as literal sound.
3. Dramatically, it’s about a person who is not getting along with someone. It’s affected them profoundly; after trying for so long to understand each other they have completely given up, gotten calm, accepted their situation, and gone neurotic listening to the sound of their own voice and reflecting on how it must sound to others. It’s almost a Zen moment at a pit of despair, as the individual becomes lost in the experience of the voice-sound. But the moment doesn’t last (fuck) and the anger/frustration returns.
I actually have an audio track for this (spoke with guitar) which is kinda creepy-cool.
My partner heard it without the fuck at the end and thought it was a fun philosophical exploration concerning difference in perception — I now see it this way, too. I enjoy it being a little lighter emotionally :).
